2008 Polo Homecoming

With Panjee a sophomore, her second year in Polo High School, the annual Homecoming Parade and Dance became very important at our house. With the big homecoming game on Friday night, October 10, the homecoming parade was scheduled for the afternoon of Thursday, October 9 and the dance was scheduled for Saturday, October 11. Panjee and her friends at school asked to use our bus in the Homecoming Parade on Thursday. She also asked us to use the bus to drive four couples to dinner on Saturday evening prior to the Homecoming Dance. Here are the resulting photos.

Several members of the sophomore class came over to our house to decorate the bus for the Homecoming Parade while it was parked in the shed. They decorated the windows with appropriate sayings, added the ribbons and streamers in school colors of blue and gold, and helped Nancy with the banners. We drove very slow from home to the school parking lot so that the decorations would not be blown off. Once at the school parking lot, Nancy was busy doing the final touches, which included blue and gold balloons around the coach. Here, Nancy is on the ladder while Menchu supervises from below. 01.jpg
Here is what the bus looked like when it was fully decorated. The Homecoming Parade was about to start in this photo. In front is a car carrying some of the class officers while behind the bus is a Polo fire truck that also joined in the parade. At the last minute, I was able to get a horn installed that played the Polo Fight Song as we were driving . . . it was a big hit. Panjee is the president of the sophomore class and was also her freshman class president last year. 02.jpg
The Homecoming Parade starts off at the High School parking lot and then passes Aplington Middle School. From there it circles around Polo's retirement home for senior citizens . . . several were out in front to watch the parade. Then, the parade turns west and passes Centennial elementary school where the students (including Tricia) were outside to watch the parade go by. Eventually, the parade ends up in downtown Polo where they block the main intersection for 15 minutes while the cheer leaders do their routine. Many of the parents and Polo residents join the kids downtown for this part of the activity.

This photo was taken on Saturday afternoon. Panjee had just gotten dressed for the dance and Tricia joined her for a photo in our back yard. 04.jpg
The four girls in the group going to dinner and then the Homecoming Dance were photographed adjacent to the bus on Saturday just before we left for dinner. Panjee is on the right. 05.jpg
Here, all eight of the kids pose next to the bus before leaving for dinner on Saturday. Panjee had removed the balloons, streamers and banners from the bus but we left the wording on the window for this trip to the restaurant and back to the high school. 06.jpg
Ready to leave for dinner in the bus, we took one more photo inside before departing. Panjee is in the back in the dinette next to her escort, Cody Johnson.

The kids had dinner at the new Candlelight restaurant in Rock Falls. Then we re-boarded the bus and returned to the high school for the dance. This photo of Panjee and several of her girlfriends was taken just as the dance was getting underway. Panjee is the second from the left. 08.jpg
Nancy calls these last two photos "The Two Faces of Panjee." This photo shows Panjee in her Tae Kwon Do outfit in front of the house. Panjee has been going to this martial arts class two days each week at the Dixon School of Tae Kwon Do in Dixon. 09.jpg
The second face of Panjee is her all dressed up with her hair done for the Homecoming Dance. This photo was taken in our yard adjacent to the house. 10.jpg
