Photos Taken at Easter

in Polo, Illinois

Several people had been asking for photos of Panjee and Nancy. Like most kids, Panjee just keeps on growing. I am afraid that Daddy Ed and Mama Jean will not recognize her when she visits Davao. Nancy is just starting to show her pregnancy. She gained a few pounds but looks good.

These photos were taken on Palm Sunday weekend in early April. I had just returned from a business trip to Oklahoma City and had a few slides remaining in my camera. Hence, we took these photos in front of the house in spite of the wind. Now you know why they call Chicago the Windy City. Devon, my grandson, was with us.

I humbly ask for your patience and understanding. We have been swapping computers around and had a computer problem when I scanned these photos and put this page together. Hence, I was forced to work with a different computer and different programs than I am familiar with. I hope that these turn out well enough so that you can see what we look like. Don't forget to send an e-mail to Nancy at her e-mail address which is shown at the bottom of the page. She really likes hearing from her friends and she does check her e-mail virtually every day.

Nancy was showing off with this pose but I snapped it in time to record it on film. The baby is starting to show a little but not too much. Nancy did gain a few pounds but her O.B., Doctor Shirley Stone, says that the size of the mom usually determines the size of the baby.

The baby has been very active these past few weeks. Nancy says that she did not have this much movement with Panjee. I keep telling her that all of my boys were football players and he is just practicing in there.

We don't know yet whether it is a boy or girl. Panjee would like to have a baby sister. However, with my family the odds are something like 4.5 to 1 that it is a boy. Nancy says that she would not mind having a son since she already has a daughter. Her family already has two granddaughters and no grandsons.

Dancing Bear
You can see that there was a breeze blowing when we took the photo. Larry's grandson Devon is on the right showing off a poster he had with him. Devon's mom and dad split up but Devon considers us "family" and has been spending more and more time with us.

Panjee is technically his aunt but they are only 11 months apart in age and they play like brother and sister. Both of them like the Nintendo and other video games and they have some favorite toys.

The week after this photo was taken, we spent a day and night in the Chicago area and Devon came along with us.

Nancy, Panjee, Devon
Devon is still showing his poster but Panjee has her bunny ears on. For several days prior to Easter, Panjee was an official representative of the Easter Bunny . . . we kept getting Easter Bunny notes and cards around the house.

When Easter came, both Panjee and Sarah looked for Easter eggs that the Easter Bunny hid. Both Panjee and Sarah said that it was too easy. I wonder if the Easter Bunny gives lessons on how to hide Easter Eggs.

We have gotten one more snow after this photo was taken but it is now getting to be spring by us. Nancy is happy with the warmer weather but I think Panjee misses the snow and cold.

Eastern Bunny and Friend
Panjee, Daddy Larry and Devon. You can see the wind blowing Panjee's hair around in this photo. Nancy took this photo so I could get on film with the two kids.

Panjee is doing really well in school. When Panjee first got to the United States, she was shy and afraid to talk to the other kids in school. Now that she has been here for a year her teacher says that she is getting to ge just like the other kids. She now is able to talk to the other kids and they talk to her. She even has some special friends.

Panjee is also getting good grades. She does particularly well in math, is already fairly high up in her class in reading, and does well with computers. She did have a problem with jumping rope in her Physical Education class but this next period has dancing instead of jumping rope and her teacher says she is doing very well with that.

Panjee, Larry, Devon
Panjee took this photo of us. I am continually amazed at the new things that Panjee can learn. She is getting to be like American kids and is anxious to learn something new.

Several Filipinas have said that the first year in the United States is the worst because you have to get used to the weather and the customs. As you can see, Nancy is already going outside on better days without a coat or sweater. She has also become accustomed to many things in the United States. She no longer asks why stores do not seal bags or why homes do not have fences.

Nancy still wants to go to the Philippine grocery stores around Chicago to get her kare-kare, tocino, bangus, bulad and other Philippine foods but he eats American hot dogs and Panjee would just as soon have french fries as rice.

Here is another photo of the Pregnant One.

The week after this photo was taken, we went to Chicago's suburbs and I found a third Philippine grocery store for Nancy. This is located in Morton Grove, a suburb north of Chicago. There are three Unimart Philippine grocery stores in the Chicago area . . . one on North Clark Street in the city, one in Hoffman Estates near Woodfield Mall in the northwest suburbs and this third one in Morton Grove. Nancy says that she likes this third one the best since it is larger and more modern than the other two and apparently has a better food selection.

We have been teasing Nancy because she says she is eating and sleeping for two. Sometimes in the morning I drive Panjee to school and Nancy goes back to bed . . . and then gets up at the crack of noon. However, she has been working in my office lately and I have been spending more time in the office.
