Our parent organization, the Family Motor Coach Association, dates back to the early 1960s. By that time numerous families were traveling around the country in custom built vehicles or converted buses known as house cars. There were efforts in 1962 and 1963 to organize these house car owners into a group. On July 20, 1963, 26 coach owning family gathered on the grounds of the Hinckley School in Hinckley, Maine to view an eclipse of the sun and talk about forming an organization. On July 21, "Family Motor Coach Association" was chosen as the official name of the group. By January of 1964, the group had 233 charter members, one associate member and five commercial members.

The Family Motor Coach Association has grown considerably over the years. There are now more than 100,000 member families. Members receive a monthly magazine titled Family Motor Coaching. In addition to chapter and regional meetings, the Family Motor Coach Association holds two annual conventions which sometimes have participation of more than 5,000 coaches and which include displays of coaches as well as sales of related parts, services and supplies. Family Motor Coach Association members are also entitled to special programs and discounts including insurance, financing and other items.

Annual family membership in the Family Motor Coach Association is only $25 and well worth it. If you are not now a member you may join on line using the link on our links page. Membership in the Family Motor Coach Association is a requirement for membership in our MCI International Chapter.

NewsletterMCI International Chapter

The MCI International Chapter was formed during the FMCA convention at Denver, Colorado in July of 1981. There were 43 original members and it was agreed that future members were to have or be interested in purchasing an MCI coach or converting one. The very first rally of the newly organized MCI International Chapter was held at Mission Bay, California on March 7, 1982.

We have enjoyed numerous wonderful rallies with interesting tours and sightseeing complimented by friendships and camaraderie that is there for us to share. Opening the "bonnet" is the magnet that brings men with common interests together. A cup of coffee or tea can have a similar effect on women. Games or crafts usually follow.

Rallies are usually planned by a Wagonmaster to correspond with FMCA Conventions. We have pre-rallies or post-rallies as arranged by the host in charge. Motor Coach Industries has been active in the past with the chapter as sponsors, assisting at rallies, and providing service information and assistance when possible.

We send newsletters quarterly or as needed covering news items, reviews of rallies, sales of items, etc. Name tags are included in the membership fees.

This is not only for owners of new coaches since many of our members own and operate vintage MCI coaches.

Benefits of membership include the chapter newsletter, our chapter rallies, any special perks or assistance offered by MCI to chapter members, and the ability to share knowledge with other MCI owners. Members share the knowledge of their coach with fellow members and trade information on parts, repairs and maintenance issues both at rallies and via the newsletter.

Current chapter membership fees are only $15 annually for regular members or $60 for five years. There is a one-time initiation fee of $15.00 for individuals or $25.00 for couples to cover badges.
